Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park

Sudan Underground near Lake Vermillion,  MN is an abandoned iron ore mine.  They have preserved the mine and equipment and you can tour the mine. I would not recommend it for small children or anyone who is claustrophobic. You go down in the mine shaft elevator. It is like a very small elevator and they cram about 12 people into it.  It's a very noisy ride about 1/2 mile underground. If you can make the journey down, it's a great tour. Even if you do not want to go underground, there is still a lot to learn about mining where the sun still shines.
