A hidden gem in the heart of downtown. Fresh oysters and bites compliment craft cocktails that are both interesting and tasty. Look for the pink neon to enter a mostly unmarked door, walk past the oysters to enter the bar.
I loved this cocktail by @lowball_libations at Geordie’s in the Wrigley Mansion. We drink with our eyes first and it delivers immediately with this charming tea service.
But it’s not all pretty smoke and mirrors either. Each element has a purpose and was thoughtfully composed. From the delicately scented “steam” to the perfectly cut clear ice and light refreshingly complex cocktail. It all comes together as a magical experience.
You may have had tea at the Wrigley before, but never like this! Order the Passionista on your next visit, and tell them the Maven sent you.
The mystery of what lies beneath...
Undertow is in its new home, inside Century Grand with her sister bars. It is every bit as magical as before but with a few more seats.
The cocktails are painstakingly curated. The kind of balanced drinks that effortlessly delight you and belie their own complexity.
No detail has been missed in the decor thanks to the vision of @barternshake partnering with some of the best tiki artists in the industry like @doug_horne_art and @tikidiablo.
Do yourself a favor, make the reservation you’ve been meaning to make, bring someone special, put a flower in your hair (no that’s not weird here) and come escape for a bit. You will thank me.

Little Rituals in downtown Phoenix is celebrating its second anniversary this week. The last year has been a tough one for them, just like all bars and restaurants.
They have spent time working on a new drink menu (debuting soon) and incorporating some impressive air cleaning and sanitizing measures to ensure patrons and staff are safe while imbibing.
I had a chance to sip on a few new things while enjoying some of my favorites as well. The melon infused Negroni (#3) is a must try - especially if you think you don’t like Negronis. It’s delicate and balanced with a caress of melon. The new menu will also feature a perfect martini. It just has just the right amount of everything and you get multiple garnishes to enhance your experience.
Chef Jeremiah is still putting out playful dishes with serious flavor. The buttermilk chicken sliders (#4) are crisp yet tender with a sauce that begs you to lick your fingers when you think nobody is looking.
It’s always great see @docdefeo and @chanel.desert.coast and catch up a bit. Stop by and say hello, toast 2 years in business, have a cocktail and safely enjoy a night out.
Phoenicians, have you heard that you can order from the fabulous new @gardenbarphoenix even before they are open?
Garden Bar is located in the @rooseveltrowcdc historic district downtown Phoenix in a gorgeous 1914 bungalow that’s under renovation to welcome you in 2021.
I was gifted the lemon crackle G&T kit with aromatics of chamomile, honeycomb, lemon verbena and lemon peel along with @qmixers elderflower tonic.
Swipe for the thoughtfully curated “grazing box” It’s not your standard charcuterie, every item in the box is either house made or from an artisan considered top of their craft. It comes beautifully wrapped and ready for your platter. You can also order bottles of wine and spirits in addition to the cocktails.
If you want my tip, order extra @stonegrindzchocolate Asian Pear caramel and @suntorywhisky infused chocolates (5). For a truly decadent finish. Click the link in @gardenbarphoenix bio to order.

Head over to @starlitebbq this week for delicious BBQ, great cocktails + something special.
The cocktail menu designed by @best.gay.ever is a gem. He grew up in some of the best bars in San Diego (nod to @politeprovisions and @ironsideoyster) and is now in Phoenix.
I was honored when he asked me to put a drink of the week on their menu.
This nod to tiki features Rum, Averna, Pedro Ximenez Sherry, Amaretto, Pineapple and bitters. I love how Rum amps up the molasses flavors in a great BBQ sauce. (Swipe to see pics from my dinner last week).
It’s called Bonny & Read after Anne Bonny & Mary Read - a couple of 18th century badass lady pirates who, no doubt, enjoyed their rum between sword fights.
Go get one and tell me what you think!
During quarantine the Grey Hen was transformed into a New Orleans style turn of the century apothecary. They have a craft cocktail menu in tune with the theme in the creative, playful and artistic style you’ve come to expect from @barternshake. It's a full immersion concept similar to their sister bars (Under Town and Platform 18) in the same building.
Here are a few of my favs from a recent visit. Each drink is so complex and interesting that it’s impossible to do them justice in this small space. Do yourself a favor and grab a reservation. Reservations have a 90 minute limit and a $25 deposit that you get back on your bill. The space is small so they can't really afford no shows. Weekends are very busy and reservations are available 7 days out.

Hey Phoenix, @bittersaz is open and focused on safe serving practices.
They used their time wisely during quarantine to create a new menu.
The drink menu is extensive with cheeky favorites like the Cheech and Chong with cannabis infused vodka served in bong flutes. uncommon cocktails like the Bitter & Boujee featuring Pisco as the base spirit. Along with one my favs, the Mezcaliki a rare to find mezcal tiki drink (2) with clarified pineapple, passion fruit and genepy.
The menu has the same playfulness with that to-die-for Bourbon Bacon Popcorn (7). Or the Mac and Brie bites (6) that are perfectly tender and creamy on the inside and crisp on the outside.
If you like dessert-in-a-glass try the Key Lime Pie (5). If you prefer a clever classic try the Midtown Manhattan with Jelinek Amaro and @theflavourblaster bubbles (1) or the Oaxacan Old fashioned (4) with a splash of vanilla to make that @mezcal.naran.us really pop!
