3. Holland Museum
PEOPLE ARE SAYING:ShiryEnjoy Holland’s heritage at three museum sites, the Holland Museum and two newly restored house museums; the Cappon House and Settlers House. Elegant 2nd floor galleries now house the museum’s extensive Dutch Collection of Fine & Decorative Arts. On exhibit are fifty-six 17th to 20th century Dutch paintings and more than one hundred and seventy other cultural objects, from fine furniture, Delftware and silver to original Dutch costumes. Follow the story of our settlement in 1847 as it shows the development as a city of diverse people. All three sites are listed on the National Register of Historic places.

The Museum interprets the lives of five generations of the Taylor-Van Hoosen families, with special focus on Dr. Bertha Van Hoosen and Dr. Sarah Van Hoosen Jones. The Museum also interprets the rich history of the Greater Rochester Community settled in 1817.

7. Tri-Cities Historical Museum
PEOPLE ARE SAYING:ShiryThe Tri-Cities Historical Museum occupies two historic buildings—the Grand Trunk Railroad Depot, originally built in 1870, and the Akeley Building, originally built in 1871. Today, these relics display artifacts from Spring Lake, Ferrysburg and Grand Haven’s pasts. The Depot Museum has shipwreck artifacts, memorabilia from the railroad and artifacts from the Coast Guard on display. While the Akeley Building’s first floor has a permanent exhibit displaying the Tri-Cities history in chronological order, starting with a Native American wigwam and going back to a Victorian era house; on the top floor of the building there are two other permanent exhibits, a medical and a soda fountain exhibit—the upper floors are reserved for the temporary exhibits.
