Copy link1. Stop 1 - Our 1st RV Park EVER! - NW Austin KOA Holiday
PEOPLE ARE SAYING:
TREKKN RV TravelsThis smallish RV park a few miles from the home we sold and moved out of was our first stop on our RVing adventure. We stayed here for about a week while we waited for our middle child to graduate from high school in June 2017.
2. Stop 3 - By The River RV Park and Campground - Kerrville, TX
PEOPLE ARE SAYING:TREKKN RV TravelsAfter leaving Big Chief, we spent a week here on the banks of the Guadalupe River. This was a very peaceful spot where we enjoyed some walks and plenty of time with our feet in the river. There was a rope swing over the river during our visit that was high enough to make a parent's heart stop...but our boys went for it and had a blast!
3. Stop 5 - Berry Springs RV Park - Georgetown, TX
PEOPLE ARE SAYING:TREKKN RV TravelsAfter several weeks getting the hang of this RVing thing (remember, we were complete newbies), we returned to the Austin area for my nephew's wedding which was taking place on June 26, 2017.
This simple park is quiet, clean, off the beaten path and generally just pretty enjoyable. It's still conveniently located to many local amenities (10-15 min drive at most), but still gave us the feeling of escaping a bit. I am sure we will be staying here again when we are back in the area in our RV.
4. Lake Pointe RV Resort & Condos
PEOPLE ARE SAYING:TREKKN RV TravelsOur 4th stop of this "maiden voyage" close to home was a great spot on another Texas lake: Canyon Lake. At this stop, we met a father and son in an Airstream BaseCamp trailer and had a good time getting to know them. We also played lots of ping pong in the resort's (very rustic and not cooled) game room on the property.
And after a week, it was time to head back to the Austin area for my nephew's wedding. After that, we would be ready to REALLY launch and actually roll out of Texas heading north into the Rockies!!
5. Lubbock RV Park
PEOPLE ARE SAYING:TREKKN RV TravelsBack in 1996, Julie and I got married while living here in Lubbock. Our first kiddo was born here as well, so it has some strong emotional attachments for us. We also still have quite a few friends here, so it was the perfect stop before our exodus from Texas.
One of our Lubbock friends is a great photographer, and he came to the RV park to snap some shots of our whole family as the "newly minted" full-time family. That's the picture we still use on our About page ( https://trekkn.co/about/ ) on the TREKKN website, as a matter of fact. It's also included in the gallery of photos for this stop.
And after some time to catch up with good friends, we headed north and drove out of Texas and into Colorado on June 29, 2017...our 21st anniversary! Yeah, that was a good way to celebrate. :)
6. Big Chief RV Resort
PEOPLE ARE SAYING:TREKKN RV TravelsAfter our son's graduation, we headed out of the city for our first "real" camping experience in a scenic location: the shores of Lake Buchanan. We really enjoyed ourselves here and would not hesitate to go back.
7. Ms. G's RV Park LLC
PEOPLE ARE SAYING:TREKKN RV TravelsAfter the wedding, we hit the road THE NEXT DAY heading north on our way out of Texas and toward the Rocky Mountains! What a thrill this was for all of us. Now we were REALLY entering the full-time RV ilfe.
After a quick stop in Denton, TX at my daughter's college (she had some paperwork to turn in), we continued west on I-20 to the teeny tiny little town of Loraine, TX. This was just a one night stopover on our way to Lubbock, TX. As we drove through the town, it felt more like a ghost town and we were not certain what we were in for. But this tiny little RV park truly and pleasantly surprised us!
The owner met us at the entrance with a handshake and helped get us backed in and situated. Very nice fellow and we were put at ease. An hour or so later, he knocked on our door and delivered a bag of peaches he had grown on his property...which made for an awesome cobbler. Basically, it taught me early on in our travels to not judge things too quickly and leave space to be pleasantly surprised and more connected with good people...in the most unlikely of places.
